The Merceria Cheri in Via Garibaldi, in the heart of Rimini’s historic centre, owes its origins to Liliana Urbinati, who opened the business in 1957, buying the start-up and licence from a relative.

Her entrepreneurial virtues, together with her great determination and the support of her husband and family members, enabled her to carry on the business successfully and, over the years, to become the owner of the shop. Mrs. Liliana is no longer with us, but in the same 19th century building, the Merceria Cheri is still run by her daughters Nadia and Maria Gabriella, who began working behind the counter when they were very young and who have been working alongside their mother since the 1970s, fulfilling a desire they have had since childhood.

Colours and glittering objects had always attracted the two girls, and after finishing their studies they both decided to work with their mother in the haberdashery. Thus, a typical haberdashery shop for the world of handmade tailoring supplies and for those who liked to make or embroider their own clothes got a considerable boost, thanks to a business turnaround. An appropriate choice was to rationalise the variety of goods and focus on clothing accessories. Ottica Da Forno moved its first steps in 1956 when Luciano, father of the current owners, decided to open the shop in IV Novembre Road.

In 1962 Ottica Da Forno moved to its current location in 32 Gambalunga Road. This was the birth of the historic brand, still used by the founder’s children, who took over the business in 1991: still today Roberto, Tiziana, Caterina and Luciana continue the family business, supported by the constant presence of their mother Maria Antonietta.

At Ottica Da Forno you can find the passion for ancient objects, but always with attention to style. Once it was the Fratelli Bissoni, where citizens of Rimini took their bicycles for repair after World War II.

Gioielleria Burnazzi

Gioielleria Burnazzi is a historic goldsmith’s shop in the historical centre of Rimini.

Founded in 1849 by the ancestors of Amos Burnazzi, a goldsmith artisan and Garibaldian militant born in 1906, to whom a street in the Viserba district of Rimini was dedicated, the business has passed from generation to generation up to the present days. After Amos, the business was first run by Probo Burnazzi, then by his son Corrado, who gave further impetus to the business, thanks also to the increased standard of living of Rimini’s citizens and the many tourists who flowed into Rimini after the Second World War. Now the management is in the wise hands of Probo Burnazzi, who bears the name of his grandfather and is still the owner of the jewellery shop since 1996, selecting products of classic taste.

Gioielleria Burnazzi has been operating in the same premises since its foundation, inside a neoclassical building designed by the architect Benedettini. The shop windows are still the frame of particular pieces and workmanship that thanks to the classical taste are created to last over time. Even the furniture retains the neoclassical style of the early days, recalling the historic facade of the building, as well as the sign, remained unchanged in style, although subjects to remake. Some of the tools used today to carry out the activities of goldsmith, date back to the first post-war period and one of the safes for storing jewelry dates back to the thirties of last century.

Burnazzi Jewellery was awarded the title of “Bottega di Tradizione più antica” (“Oldest traditional shop”) by the Province of Rimini in 2003 and 2004 and was included in a collection of articles in a well-known local newspaper, which thus acknowledged its historicity also in the regional panorama.

Cappelli Auto

Cappelli brings with it all the charm of classic cars. The company, located on the Via Emilia in Celle di Rimini, began its business of buying and selling industrial vehicles back in 1960, becoming a multi-brand dealership in 1980. Cappelli was one of the first in Rimini to deal with the international brands Peugeot, Volvo, Honda Maserati and Mercedes. Cars and trucks, but not only: Cappelli can boast of being a dealer of the prestigious Riva motorboats. The business was started by two brothers, Luigi and Giovanni Cappelli: the company has remained in the family and is currently owned by their sons, the three brothers Alberto, Alessandro and Marco Cappelli.

Today, Cappelli Auto continues to sell vintage cars, used cars and trucks. A visit to the interior of the premises, which have remained faithful to the dealership’s beginnings, is a must: there are many images that evoke the splendour of Rimini in the Sixties and Seventies. The protagonists of the photos are the historic and unique Ferrari in use by the State Police and the first truck of the Fire Brigade, currently on loan to a Capitoline museum, and those of their historic cars during various editions of Mille Miglia. Going up to the first floor you can see (and purchase) historical cars from the 1920s to the 1980s, including the grey Lancia Aurelia Spider made famous in Dino Risi’s 1955 film “Il Sorpasso”, or admire the first car with a San Marino license plate still registered. As fascinating frame for the large number of cars there is also a collection of vintage objects ranging from radios to tennis rackets, from telephones to gramophones. All these things make a visit to Cappelli Auto an unmissable experience.​
